Today's Look- High Waist Trousers

Hi loves! Today's post is about one of my current obsessions.. high-waist trousers! I can't get enough of this chic look! I just love how flattering they are (especially for us shorties) the high waist definitely adds length to your legs, while the flare is flattering for those of us who are more generous in the hip department. I also enjoy how you can dress this look up or down. I opted to wear a cute suede crop top in this look to show a sexier side, but if you're going for a more conservative look, mix it up with a tucked-in flowy top and cute belt! *examples below* I especially enjoy this look for a date night or an event. (I recently wore them to wedding, which is perfect for those cooler months!)

Today's Look- The Dress

Recently I posted a picture on my Facebook page wearing a blue tie-back maxi dress to a family wedding. I got SO many questions and comments about this dress, which makes me very excited to share with you where I purchased it, especially since I think it's still available! (see link below)

First off, I'm a FIRM believer that you can still look elegant without breaking the bank, and too often I find that other bloggers post pictures of outfits that are just not realistic for the everyday girl. (especially those of us that still wait tables :/) Now, this does not mean that I don't appreciate a fabulous designer handbag or sunglasses every once in a while. I mean, we still have to treat ourselves here and there, but I think mixing less expensive brands with high-end products is ABSOLUTELY acceptable. (and sometimes necessary.)

For example, I think every woman should own at least one expensive designer clutch or purse. It just makes you feel good, and even if you only use it for a special occasion, it's yours to feel proud of. Especially if you're lucky enough to pay for it yourself! ;)

So that was my rant on expensive things.

Now to the dress. I got this cut-out beauty from EXPRESS on CLEARANCE for under $40.00!! **THIS WHOLE OUTFIT WAS ON CLEARANCE** I believe it was 60% off and then I had addition coupons. I love express coupons! It also comes in black if you're looking for something more basic, but trust me, you won't be looking basic with this baby on.

The dress ties in the back, which creates sexy cut-outs around the mid tummy area, then has long slits in the front for just enough Angelina Jolie leg-stopping-action. A dress like this can also be dressed down for something a little more casual, like a garden party, with a pair of wedges. But I wanted to really **GLAM** this look up with bold accessories (opted for gold but a contrasting pink or coral would look pretty too) and a fun patterned shoe. And since it's long, it's still perfect for fall if paired with the right jacket or coat.

The shoes are Isaac Mizrahi, that I picked up from DSW for under $50.00 ( additional 40%off, Orig $130). All-in-all, I'd say this outfit is a WIN for the wallet!

Today's Look-Maximize Your Maxi

Hey dolls! Since it appears that Fall may be experiencing some type of procrastination... I decided to post another great warm weather look! Oh how I love a good, comfy, Maxi Dress. Never underestimate their style potential. This look shows you how you can DRESS UP an otherwise casual outfit, with the right accessories. (And shoes of course)

I'm OBSESSED with this dress that I picked up from...wait for it.. TARGET! (I believe it was under $30) When I saw it I immediately feel in love, especially since I'm such a sucker for anything black, white, or grey. The best part is how SOFT it is. Perfect for a day of running errands or even lounging around the house.

I'm sure we all have one of these in our closet, especially on standby for days when you want to make no effort whatsoever, but yet you still want to look like you tried. (That's pretty much how I felt all summer :/ ) So I decided, why not combine comfort with a little glam.

Of course, I paired it with a great statement necklace. For an extra POP, chose another bright colored accessory to contrast the black and white. If it's a night out, opt for a cute simple clutch, instead of that heavy tote. (another pattern or color would go nicely as well, but for this look, I wanted to stick to black and white) If for some reason, it decides to be chilly out, a dark denim jacket or leather jacket would be PERF with this.

Lastly, rock your highest heels. The higher the BETTER.  Since the dress is long, it can visually take away length from us shortys. Being only 5'5," I absolutely love how tall this dress made me look once I threw on these leather strappy heels.

10 Wardrobe Essentials

Ever feel like your outfit is just "blah?" We've all had those days where we think "I need new clothes" or "I have NOTHING to wear.." Well here's a few of my favorite wardrobe essentials to make your outfit POP!  Having a few of these go-to items will save you a lot of time and money, especially when you gotta run out the door for that afternoon meeting, coffee with the girls, or date night with your boo.

Statement Necklace

Everyone knows I LOVE a good statement necklace. This is my #1 trick when I wanna make a simple outfit standout. It even has the wonderful power of making this plain grey tee look dressy! Throwing on an eye-catching necklace can make you look like you actually made an effort when picking out your clothes this morning ;)

Cute Hat

You should always have a cute hat on standby for those "I didn't wash my hair today" days.
*BCBG

Fitted Coat

Find a classy, form-fitted coat that goes with everything. This especially comes in handy when you get off work and plan on meeting up with friends after. You can conceal any unflattering uniforms or fashion faux pas.
*H&M

Ballet Flats

We all own ballet flats. But next time you're shopping, pick out a great pair with some sort of pattern. They really do change the whole look of your outfit. Plus, they're comfy and perfect for SPRING.
*Tory Burch

Bright Bag

I'm not very "flashy" when it comes to my purses. I like to keep it simple and typically stick with neutrals you can wear with anything. However, this Fall, I found this baby at Nordstrom's anniversary sale for 1/2 off! ..No buyers remorse here!! I love how bright the blue is and it turned out to be the "must-have" color this season. It truly complemented every outfit, and made it look more polished. (I also received a ton of compliments on it, which is always nice.)

Leather Pants

Oh faux leather, how I am such a sucker for you. These comfy, animal-friendly pants, can easily go from day to night. I think every girl should own a pair of slimming black pants (no, I'm not talking about leggings.) However, truth is, not all of us look the same in tight leather, so if you have larger "assets," you may wanna consider a cute, oversized sweater or tank to wear over them :) I have tried-on numerous pairs of faux leather pants and they can make my hips look much larger (or my hips really are that big and I'm in denial by blaming the pants) but I found this pair, which are almost like sweatpants, with an elastic waist and ankle cuffs. I love this style in particular because I can wear these with flats, heels, and SNEAKERS! These are my new obsession.

Watch

..Because you need to know the time. jk. But really I think a watch should be a staple in EVERYONE'S wardrobe. Doesn't have to be too large or too expensive, just has to serve as a great piece of jewelry.. because who really looks at their watch anyway? Watches these days are more for fashion, not function.
*Michael Kors

Fitted Blazer

Find a blazer with a nice fit and it can make so many wrongs-- right. They're just so versatile and again can even make this plain tee look chic. I prefer one below the waist-line and with a 3/4 length sleeve. Goes great over t-shirts, blouses, and dresses.
*H&M

Scarf

Instead of a necklace, opt for a scarf with a fun pattern or pop of color.  Keep one in your bag to perk up any plain look by simply mixing prints! Try looping it around your neck once, or hanging it loosely by your sides, and pair it with that fitted coat.
