Tips to Get Over a Break-Up

Due to the recent events which have occurred in many of my girlfriend's lives (mine included) it seems as though everyone is going through a break up. So many beautiful, amazing women dealing with the same B.S. But hey, it happens. I got inspired and decided to make light of the situation and post a few helpful tips that could potentially ease some of the pain.

  •  GRIEVE
I believe it is very important to take the time to mourn the end of your relationship. Go ahead, listen to Sara Bareilles, Adele and watch episodes of Sex and the City on repeat.  Cry, cry, and then cry some more...

OK STOP!! that's enough crying. He probably didn't deserve you anyway..

  • EAT
Time to bring out the two men that NEVER disappoint. Ben and Jerry. Go to Happy Hour with the girls, have late night pizza and dessert with your coworkers. Order greasy Chinese takeout (no one is judging) It is very important to follow this step in moderation. If this goes on for too long it can lead to an excessive amount of weight gain and we do not want that.

It's not so much about emotional eating, it's more about distracting yourself. It's about going out, catching up with friends, and venting about the breakup.

  • WORK OUT
Okay, now put down the cookies, and hit the gym! When you LOOK GOOD you FEEL GOOD. Call it vain, but when your body is banging, your confidence can soar sky high.

Start a new Zumba class, go on a hike with some friends, get the hot personal trainer at your local gym to give you some tips. SET GOALS. Whether you want to tone those legs, run a 5K, get a six pack (abs, not beer) or just shed a few pounds, GET TO IT!

  • MAKE OVER
For some reason when a girl goes through a breakup, whether she was the dumper or dumpee, she immediately feels the need to change something. This can be something as simple as the color of her hair, to the location of where she lives.

**WARNING** Don't do anything DRASTIC! Don't chop all your hair off because it will make you more "edgy" or move across the country away from all your family and friends.

With this, you run the risk of becoming homesick or hating your new hair cut. When it comes to making a change, I think it should be something new that makes you excited and happy. This can be reading a new book, taking up a new hobbie; sowing, painting, starting a blog;) etc...

Whatever it is, KEEP BUSY.

  • REDECORATE
Yes, redecorate. There is something very therapeutic about revamping a room in your home. It gives you the opportunity to create a relaxing and inviting space where you won't feel so bad spending a Friday night alone. It will make you happy to just lounge around drinking coffee and reading Cosmo on a Saturday morning.

If not your bedroom, then redo your living room or outdoor patio and have some friends over to enjoy your new space!

  • TRAVEL
Another obvious way to distract yourself is by planning a trip! Whether it's a weekend in Palm Springs or a trip to Ibiza with all your girls, the point is, you're spending time with people who love and APPRECIATE you. (Unlike that schmuck..)

Once you get the travel bug, run with it! SPOIL YOURSELF! You deserve it.

Plus, don't you wanna show off that hot new bod in a bikini..who knows who you could meet on vacation ;)

  • MAKE A LIST
This is the part where I get a little "Carlye Bradshaw" on you. I'm not saying make a list about your dreams (I'm sure you have them memorized:) or what you're going to do before you "kick the bucket," I'm talking make a PRO/CON list of all the things you liked and disliked about the person. I'm pretty sure you will find the "con" side to be much longer.

If it didn't work out, it was FOR A REASON, I know that doesn't make it any easier but all you can do is learn from the relationship, accept that it has run it's course, and MOVE ON.

Last but not least, don't forget to LAUGHIt really is the best medicine.

Mr. Big: "after a while, you just want to be with the one who makes you laugh."

Cheers dolls,
Xx
